25 Chic and Comfortable Pickleball Outfits for Women Over 50

I took up pickleball at fifty three, which puts me squarely in the middle of the biggest group in the sport. What I did not expect was how much the clothing mattered. Not for how it looks, though that counts, but for whether my knees and shoulders were still working on Sunday after playing Friday and Saturday.
Three things I would tell anyone starting now. Compression on the legs makes a real difference to how the next morning feels. Sleeves matter, because the backs of your hands and forearms take more sun on a court than anywhere else. And a collar or a modest neckline means you are never thinking about it. The outfits below all follow those. For cooler months the cold weather outfits carry the same principles, and the leggings edit covers the single most useful garment in the sport.
The one thing worth spending money on is shoes, and specifically court shoes rather than running shoes. Running shoes are built to move forward. Pickleball moves sideways, and rolled ankles are the most common way players our age lose a season. More on that in common pickleball injuries.
A skort with a simple polo. The uniform of the sport, and there is nothing wrong with that. A skort with a built in short is more practical than a skirt and more comfortable than shorts, which is why so many players land here.
High waisted leggings under a tank. The high waist is not a style choice at this age, it is a support choice: it holds the lower back and keeps everything in place through a full session. Modern without being try hard.
A neutral long sleeve with capri leggings. My most worn combination, honestly. Full arm coverage against the sun, capri length against the heat, and nothing bright enough to date in two seasons.
A floral skort with a coordinating top. Matching sets have come back and they suit this format well, because the eye reads one continuous outfit rather than two halves. Choose a print with breathing room in it.
Black leggings under a quarter zip. Sleek, warm enough for a cool morning, and the zip means you can adjust without stopping. This is the outfit I keep in the car for an unplanned game.
A striped polo over an A line skirt. The A line moves more freely than a straight cut and it is the more forgiving shape of the two. Traditional, and it looks entirely at home at a club league night.
A soft heathered tee over compression shorts. The lowest effort outfit here and a genuinely good one. Heathered fabric hides sweat far better than a flat solid colour, which is worth knowing before a long doubles session.
A tropical print skort with a plain sleeveless top. Summer social play, and the print does all the work. Sleeveless means sunscreen on the shoulders before you leave the house, not once you arrive.
A white polo with navy capris. The most classic combination in the set and the one that never looks wrong. Navy capris hide the court dust that white bottoms will show by the second game.
Geometric leggings under a plain tank. Pattern on the legs is more forgiving than pattern across the middle, and a strong geometric print is easier to wear than a floral if flowers are not your thing.
#25: Lightweight Cardigan over a Performance Skort
A light cardigan over a performance skort. The cardigan is for before and after rather than during, and that is exactly the point: it turns a playing outfit into something you can sit down for coffee in without changing.
