⏳ Taekwondo History

• 57 BCE to 668 CE: During the Three Kingdoms period, each Korean kingdom developed its unique form of martial arts, contributing to the early development of Taekwondo.
• 1940s to 1950s: After World War II, various Korean martial arts schools unified under the name “Taekwondo”. This period is also marked by the incorporation of Taekwondo in South Korean military forces training.
• 1960s to 1970s: Global influence of Taekwondo expanded as Korean masters began performing martial art demonstrations worldwide. The World Taekwondo Federation was established in 1973.
• 1980s: The International Taekwondo Federation gained recognition from the IOC. Taekwondo made its debut as a demonstration sport at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
• 1990s: Taekwondo became a demonstration sport again at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and the number of countries practicing Taekwondo significantly increased.
• 2000s: Taekwondo made a debut as an official Olympic sport at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, leading to a significant boost in global appeal.
• 2010s: Technological advancements shaped modern Taekwondo, such as the introduction of the Instant Video Replay system at the 2012 London Olympics.
• Present: Taekwondo is practiced in over 200 countries, with millions of practitioners worldwide.
