• 1965: Snowboarding’s origin is traced back to Sherman Poppen, who invents the “Snurfer” for his daughter, marking the birth of snowboarding as a new and innovative sport.
• 1977: Significant progress in snowboard design and technology as Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards, a company synonymous with the sport today.
• 1980s: Rapid formation of various snowboarding organizations, competitions, and publications including National Snowboarding Championships, signaling the growing popularity and talent within the sport.
• 1990s: Snowboarding solidifies its status as a legitimate sport with the establishment of the International Snowboarding Federation (ISF) and hosting of the first Snowboarding World Championships. The sport also debuts in the 1998 Winter Olympics.
• 2000s: Snowboarding takes over Winter X Games, attracting large audiences, turning professional athletes into household names. Decade marked by advancements in snowboard technology.
• 2010s: Emergence of groundbreaking snowboarding events, inclusion of new disciplines in Winter Olympics, and the transition into splitboarding, a hybrid between snowboarding and ski touring.
