• 16th Century: Origins of curling traced back to Scotland; the first recorded game took place in 1511 in Paisley Abbey, Scotland.
• 1838: The Grand Caledonian Curling Club, an early promoter of the sport, was established in Scotland.
• 1890: First World Curling Championships held in Paisley, Scotland, bringing international exposure to the sport.
• 1924: Curling debuted at the inaugural Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France, boosting its global reputation.
• 1959: Establishment of the Scotch Cup, evolving into today’s World Curling Championships.
• 1988 & 1998: Curling returned as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and became a full-medal sport 10 years later in Nagano, Japan.
• 2000s: Introduction of digital scoreboards, video analysis, and advanced ice-making techniques; first World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship held in 2008.
• 2010: Popularity surged at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, especially in Canada, the host nation.
• 2018: Mixed doubles curling was introduced as an Olympic event for the first time at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
