25 Trendy Pickleball Outfits for Women This Spring

Spring is when the outdoor courts fill up again, and it is also when everyone dresses wrong. Too much in the morning, too little at six in the evening, and a lot of people playing their first session of the year in whatever was at the front of the drawer.

What I have settled on is one light layer over a summer outfit, and the layer comes off at the end of the warm up rather than mid game. Colours get to be the fun part this time of year: this is the season for the pastels and fresh prints that look wrong in November. If the cold hangs on, the cold weather outfits are the more sensible list, and the leggings edit is where most of these outfits end up anyway.

Two spring specifics. Outdoor courts hold water, so bring the shoes with the better tread for the first few weeks of the season. And spring sun is stronger than it feels at fifteen degrees, which is how people finish April with a burnt neck. If you are replacing gear for the new season, our rundown of the top pickleball brands is a useful reference point.

#1: Mint Polo with a White Skort

A mint polo with a white skort. The first outfit out of the drawer every March, and the one I photograph most on a bright court.

#2: Lilac Top with Grey Leggings

A lilac top with grey leggings. Spring colours without the summer bare legs, which is what April actually calls for.

#3: Yellow Tank with Navy Shorts

A yellow tank with navy shorts. Yellow reads as spring faster than any other colour and navy stops it tipping into fancy dress.

#4: Windbreaker over a Sleeveless Set

A windbreaker over a sleeveless set. Spring wind is the real problem, not the temperature, and a thin shell solves it entirely.

#5: Sage Green Set with White Trainers

A sage green set with white trainers. Sage has quietly replaced grey as the neutral I reach for, and it never looks tired.

#6: Blush Polo with Cream Trousers

A blush polo with cream trousers. Soft on soft looks expensive on a court where everyone else is in black and neon.

#7: Striped Tee with a Pleated Skort

A striped tee with a pleated skort. Stripes and pleats sound like too much until you see them together in daylight.

#8: Sky Blue Dress with Built In Shorts

A sky blue dress with built in shorts. Spring is dress season on court and the built in shorts remove every worry about reaching.

#9: Quarter Zip over a Pastel Tank

A quarter zip over a pastel tank. The layer comes off at the first change of ends and the outfit underneath still works.

#10: Coral Set with a White Visor

A coral set with a white visor. The visor is doing more work than it looks, both for the low spring sun and for the photograph.

#11: Green Print Skort with a Plain White Top

A green print skort with a plain white top. Put the print below the waist and the outfit stays calm from the shoulders up.

#12: Navy and White Colour Block Set

A navy and white colour block set. The most reliable pairing in sport, and the one that still looks right in five years of photographs.

#13: Cropped Jacket with a Matching Skort

A cropped jacket with a matching skort. Matching pieces make a cool morning look deliberate rather than improvised.

#14: Lightweight Long Sleeve with Capris

A lightweight long sleeve with capris. Full cover for a windy court, thin enough that you forget it is there by the second game.

#15: Fresh Pastel Top with a White Skort

A pale pastel top over a white skort. The most spring outfit here without trying. White bottoms are fine on a dry court in the afternoon, less so on a damp morning one, so check the surface before you commit.

#16: Patterned Skort with a Plain Tank

A patterned skort with a solid tank. Pattern below and plain above is the combination that works nine times out of ten, and it lets you keep wearing last year's tanks with something new.

#17: Sporty Set in Fresh Colours

A coordinated set in fresh spring colour. Matching sets take the decision out of the morning entirely, which matters if you play before work. One colour, top and bottom, nothing to think about.

#18: Light and Breezy Activewear

Lightweight fabric top and bottom for a mild day. The whole outfit is chosen for airflow rather than warmth, which is right for a still spring afternoon and wrong for a windy one. Bring a shell either way.

#19: Floral Top with a Solid Skort

A floral top with a plain skort. Flowers in spring is the obvious choice and it is obvious because it works. Look for a print with some space in it, since dense florals go muddy from across the net.

#20: Classic Polo with a Skort

A plain polo with a matching skort. The version that will still look right in five years. If your club has any kind of dress standard, or you play in a league, this is the outfit that never raises a question.

#21: Bright Colour Blocked Outfit

Two strong spring colours blocked against each other. Colour blocking needs commitment: two clear colours, no pattern, no third shade sneaking in on the shoes. Done properly it is the sharpest thing on the list.

#22: Long Sleeve Top with a Skirt

A light long sleeve over a skirt. The answer for a spring evening session, when the sun drops faster than the temperature suggests. Sleeves also mean no sunscreen on the arms, which saves five minutes.

#23: Tank Top with Matching Shorts

A tank with coordinating shorts. The simplest outfit here and the one for a genuinely warm spring day. Shorts with a built in liner and a wide waistband, or you will be adjusting them all match.

#24: Cardigan over a Skort

A light cardigan over a skort and top. Layer on for the warm up, off for the first game, back on for the walk to the car. That is exactly the job, and a cardigan does it better than a jacket because it packs flat.

#25: Bright Top with Full Length Leggings

A vivid top with full length leggings. Spring mornings are still cold at the ankle and leggings solve that without any bulk. A bright top keeps the outfit from reading as winter clothing that never got put away.
