⏳ Softball History

• 1887: Softball was invented by George Hancock as an indoor alternative to baseball.
• 1895: Outdoor Softball introduced by Louis Rober in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
• 1926 to 1933: The American Softball Association (ASA) was established in Chicago to maintain structured rules and guidelines.
• 1930s to 1940s: Women’s softball gained increased prominence; first-ever women’s softball world series held in 1939.
• 1943: Founding of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) by Philip Wrigley.
• 1950s to 1960s: Introduction of Slo-pitch softball; establishment of the International Softball Federation (ISF) in 1952.
• 1996: Softball makes its official debut at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
• 2008: Softball is removed from the Olympic program after the Beijing Olympics.
• 2020: Softball returns to the Olympic Program for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
• 21st Century: Continuous evolution and expansion of softball with new organizations, leagues, and initiatives promoting its growth.
