⏳ Lacrosse History

• 17th Century: Lacrosse originated among Native American tribes. French settlers adapt and evolve the game, leading to its modern form.
• 1856: Montreal Lacrosse Club was founded by Dr. William George Beers who introduced standardized rules and equipment.
• 1867: National Lacrosse Association was established, marking its influence in North American athletic culture.
• 1904 & 1908: Lacrosse featured as a demonstration sport in the Olympic Games held in St. Louis, Missouri and London, England.
• 1920s – 1940s: Lacrosse expands to colleges and universities in the United States, becoming a part of collegiate athletics
• 1950s – 1960s: The popularity of lacrosse spread beyond the eastern United States with the emergence of box lacrosse in Canada and growth in American high schools.
• 1971: The NCAA held its first official men’s lacrosse championship. In 1982, it hosted the first women’s lacrosse championship.
• 1990s: Significant technological advancements influenced lacrosse, with new equipment designs and better-performing materials emerging.
• 2000s – 2010s: Lacrosse experienced exponential growth globally, fostering the emergence of international tournaments and professional leagues like MLL and PLL.
