Handball is a seven-a-side indoor game in which players may hold the ball for three seconds and take three steps before passing or shooting. The six metre line around the goal belongs to the keeper alone, so shooters jump into the area and release in the air.

• 1972: Indoor handball replaces field handball as the official handball discipline at the Munich Olympics.
