• Early 1700s: European nations incorporated ancient gymnastics practices into military training and public education systems.
• Early 1800s: Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, the “father of modern gymnastics,” established the first outdoor gymnastics site in Berlin.
• 1896: Gymnastics debuts as an Olympic sport at the first Modern Olympic Games in Athens.
• 1928: Women’s artistic gymnastics is added to the Olympic program with a team event.
• 1970s: Groundbreaking performances, like Olga Korbut’s at the 1972 Munich Olympics and Nadia Comăneci’s perfect 10 score at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, transform gymnastics.
• 1984: Rhythmic gymnastics are incorporated into the Olympics.
• 2000: Trampoline gymnastics is introduced to the Olympic program.
