OUR MISSION:  To financially assist Connecticut cancer patients and their families and to fund cancer research.

2017 Cycle Against Cancer

In March 2017, the CT Sports Foundation began a new initiative to expand the Cycle Against Cancer to multiple locations!  We kicked off our effort with four gyms hosting the event in seven days!  On March 18, Iron House Fitness in Old Saybrook and New York Sports Club in West Hartford held the Cycle Against Cancer from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Led by an experienced and enthusiastic Steering Committee, Iron House Fitness raised over $61,000 to help cancer patients in CT!  Our Iron House Ambassador, Chloe, was there and had a ball playing with 2015 Ambassador, Liv.

On the same day, first time Cycle Against Cancer host New York Sports Club raised almost $18,000 – a great result for their first year!  The NYSC Ambassador, 12 year-old Allison, stopped by with her mom to greet the riders – when she entered the room, everybody cheered!

The very next day, Zen and Now Wellness Center in Niantic stepped up to the plate, hosting their second Cycle Against Cancer and raising over $27,000!  The Ambassador for this CAC was four-year old Molly, whose story was especially powerful since her mom, Ashley, is also fighting cancer.  Molly and her little friends had a blast dancing to the music while the group spun their hearts out.

On Saturday, March 25, it was UP Fitness’s turn.  UP Fitness was another newbie to the Cycle Against Cancer, but they came roaring into the event, raising close to $30,000 for cancer patients in CT, especially the Ambassador, Marik, who is battling bone cancer for the second time.  Kelli Tucker, Marik’s mom, gave an emotional thank you that was both heartwarming and touching.

At every location, the Cycle Against Cancer was uplifting and inspiring.  Together, these four events raised over $135,000 for cancer patients in CT!  We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in the Cycle Against Cancer events – the CT Sports Foundation has a small staff and we could not do the work that we do and help as many patients as we help without people like you!

We would especially like to thank our gym hosts, Steering Committees, and top fundraisers for their commitment to this cause!

2017 30th Annual Celebrity Dinner

The 30th Annual Celebrity Dinner and Memorabilia Auction lived up to the expectations where more than 900 guests attended this much anticipated annual event to support the CSF mission: to financially assist Connecticut
cancer patients and their families and fund cancer research.

After 11 years of hosting the Celebrity Dinner, Master of Ceremonies, Mike Francesa from WFAN is bidding farewell as he plans to exit WFAN later this year. Once again, he brought his alluring sports talk to the Sports Program
where he brought back unforgettable baseball memories from future Hall of Famer "Big Papi" David Ortiz, NY Yankees Luis Severino and Tyler Florence along with NY Mets pitcher Steven Matz. Joining us on stage were CSF Grant
Recipients who told stories of courage, grace and humor in the face of difficulty, and love and support amidst struggle.

As always, the venue was spectacular with incredible foods, desserts and beverages provided by Mohegan Sun.

We thank Mike for 11 years of generosity, entertainment and many fond memories!

With sincere gratitude to our generous sponsors, sports stars, volunteers and all those supporting the 2017 Celebrity Dinner to make it spectacular!

See you next year on Friday, February 9, 2018!

The Cycle Against Cancer At Zen and Now Wellness Studio was a HUGE Success!

Zen and Now Wellness Studio is a small, but vibrant studio in Niantic that offers a great selection of the hottest fitness trends.  Yoga, spinning, TRX, bootcamp – if it’s effective and fun, you can find it at Zen and Now. But more than just a great place to work out, Zen and Now is a family. Led by lifetime Niantic resident Lisa Bragaw, Zen and Now is a community invested in helping others and making the world a better place.  So when CSF was looking for another host for the Cycle Against Cancer, we thought that Zen and Now would be a great place. We were right.

The Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now was held on July 30, 2016 at Zen and Now Wellness Studio in Niantic.  It was led by a small, but enthusiastic Steering Committee of Lisa Bragaw, Caitlin Chapin, and Terri Eickel.  Meeting regularly, these three women secured sponsorships, raffle items, and recruited team captains.  The team captains for the Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now were incredible, with every captain leading their team over the $1,000 goal!  Our fabulous team captains were Erika Ellis, Lise Alaimo, Stacy Sankow, Lisa Bragaw, Mary DeVizia, Caitlin Chapin, Terri Eickel, and Debbie Kane. Big congrats went out to our top three fundraisers – Lisa Bragaw, Jeff Snider, and Sara Heffernan, as well as our top team, Spinnin’ and Grinnin.’  Fantastic job!

A fun teacup raffle was a huge hit, raising almost $1,000 with raffle baskets filled with great items from dozens of local businesses.  Niantic and the rest of the Shoreline are incredibly giving and compassionate and it definitely showed!

The fundraising goal for the Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now was $15,000, but these remarkable riders crushed that goal, raising $20,003 to benefit Connecticut cancer patients, especially our little Ambassador, Meadow.  Meadow is a three year-old from Waterford who is fighting acute myeloid leukemia.  Because of the Cycle Against Cancer, CSF was able to give her a larger grant than we can typically give out, plus we will be able to continue to help other CT cancer patients and their families as they fight this terrible disease.

Special thanks to our sponsors - Zen And Now Wellness Studios, The Day Publishing Company, and WFSB, From You Flowers, Café Sol, Simply Pharmacy, Geico Waterford, and Chelsea Groton Bank – they are all incredible!  Without generous support from our sponsors, raffle donors, and spinners, we could not financially assist all the cancer patients that we help here in Connecticut.

Thank you for all that you do to help cancer patients in Connecticut!
