OUR MISSION:  To financially assist Connecticut cancer patients and their families and to fund cancer research.

The Cycle Against Cancer At Zen and Now Wellness Studio was a HUGE Success!

Zen and Now Wellness Studio is a small, but vibrant studio in Niantic that offers a great selection of the hottest fitness trends.  Yoga, spinning, TRX, bootcamp – if it’s effective and fun, you can find it at Zen and Now. But more than just a great place to work out, Zen and Now is a family. Led by lifetime Niantic resident Lisa Bragaw, Zen and Now is a community invested in helping others and making the world a better place.  So when CSF was looking for another host for the Cycle Against Cancer, we thought that Zen and Now would be a great place. We were right.

The Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now was held on July 30, 2016 at Zen and Now Wellness Studio in Niantic.  It was led by a small, but enthusiastic Steering Committee of Lisa Bragaw, Caitlin Chapin, and Terri Eickel.  Meeting regularly, these three women secured sponsorships, raffle items, and recruited team captains.  The team captains for the Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now were incredible, with every captain leading their team over the $1,000 goal!  Our fabulous team captains were Erika Ellis, Lise Alaimo, Stacy Sankow, Lisa Bragaw, Mary DeVizia, Caitlin Chapin, Terri Eickel, and Debbie Kane. Big congrats went out to our top three fundraisers – Lisa Bragaw, Jeff Snider, and Sara Heffernan, as well as our top team, Spinnin’ and Grinnin.’  Fantastic job!

A fun teacup raffle was a huge hit, raising almost $1,000 with raffle baskets filled with great items from dozens of local businesses.  Niantic and the rest of the Shoreline are incredibly giving and compassionate and it definitely showed!

The fundraising goal for the Cycle Against Cancer Zen and Now was $15,000, but these remarkable riders crushed that goal, raising $20,003 to benefit Connecticut cancer patients, especially our little Ambassador, Meadow.  Meadow is a three year-old from Waterford who is fighting acute myeloid leukemia.  Because of the Cycle Against Cancer, CSF was able to give her a larger grant than we can typically give out, plus we will be able to continue to help other CT cancer patients and their families as they fight this terrible disease.

Special thanks to our sponsors - Zen And Now Wellness Studios, The Day Publishing Company, and WFSB, From You Flowers, Café Sol, Simply Pharmacy, Geico Waterford, and Chelsea Groton Bank – they are all incredible!  Without generous support from our sponsors, raffle donors, and spinners, we could not financially assist all the cancer patients that we help here in Connecticut.

Thank you for all that you do to help cancer patients in Connecticut!

2016 m.e.l.t.-a-thon Against Cancer

The 2nd m.e.l.t.-a-thon Against Cancer was held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Center Springs Park in Manchester. On a beautiful spring morning, over 125 m.e.l.t.ers came together for a great workout and a terrific cause – raising money to help cancer patients in Connecticut!  Together, they raised over $37,500, which will be used to provide financial aid for CT cancer patients, especially the event’s Ambassador, Daniel Therriault.  Dan was diagnosed with bone cancer in February and by the m.e.l.t.-a-thon, he had had surgery to replace his knee and his upper thigh bone, as well as several rounds of chemo.  The m.e.l.t.-a-thon Against Cancer will help Dan and many other cancer patients in CT.

The day was almost impossibly beautiful and the m.e.l.t. team, led by owner and creator, Joe Carabase, built an obstacle course that was both fun and challenging with stations like the tire flip, sled push, and the sandbag lunge.  And of course, there was a station with burpees!

At the start of the event, Dan’s father, Howie Therriault, who was visibly moved by the support, gave an emotional thank you. Dave Carmody was our top fundraiser, followed by Terri Eickel in second place, and Jennah Clatterbuck in third place.  Jennah led her team to the top fundraiser prize, as well – Team WH raised almost $4,000!  Thank you so much to all of you for your leadership in making this event a success!

All along the course, m.e.l.t. instructors Aaron Granahan, Zack Nagle, Ashton Sills, Kelly Gilhooley, Jessica Hussey, Mike Hickey, Mike McClain, Leighann Clark, Kena Perry, Barb Bartlett, Mary Ransom, Brittany Schon, Shannon Michaels, Connor Clark, and Joe Carabase cheered participants on, inspiring them to give their all and be their best.  People completed the m.e.l.t.-a-thon course, sweaty but smiling, and refueled at the Panera Bread tent, where Panera was providing free refreshments for the event.

It is always inspiring when a group of good-hearted people come together to help others and the m.e.l.t.-a-thon Against Cancer was no exception.  On behalf of our Steering Committee, we would like to issue a huge thank you to all team captains and m.e.l.t.ers – without you, we couldn’t help all the CT cancer patients that we assist each year. We would also like to thank our generous sponsors, including m.e.l.t gym, Northeast Contractors, Inc, New England Liner Systems, Panera Bread, United Steel, Community Cancer Care, ENCON, Massey’s Plate Glass & Aluminum, D’Amato Construction, First Hartford Realty Corp, Metro Realty Corp, Mechanical Plumbing and Heating, Landmark Café, and Highland Park Market.

2016 Cycle Against Cancer at Tribe

On October 22, 2016, the ultra-popular spin studio in the heart of West Hartford Center, Tribe, hosted the Cycle Against Cancer to support cancer patients and their families in Connecticut. If you haven’t been to Tribe yet, it’s time to check it out! With 37 spin bikes and amazing instructors, every class leaves you exhilarated and feeling fit. On October 22, over 65 spinners joined forces to raise over $18,000 for cancer patients in Connecticut, especially Michael, a brave toddler fighting brain cancer. As the Ambassador for the Cycle Against Cancer, Michael and his mother were eligible for a much larger grant that CSF can typically provide. We were lucky to have Michael join us, too – everyone was excited to meet our cute little warrior! At the start of the event, Michael’s mom, Ariel, gave an emotional welcome and thank you to the spinners. Then Tribe manager and spin instructor extraordinaire Janelle Pentlicki took over, leading the spinners in a heart-pumping, fun workout!

Thank you to everyone who participated or supported this event – you truly are making a difference in the lives of cancer patients in Connecticut. Last year, we provided almost $450,000 in financial assistance, but we couldn’t do it without our spinners, sponsors, and donors, so THANK YOU!
