Cycle Against Cancer: Shoreline Fitness 2012

We are kicking off our fundraising efforts for Cycle Against Cancer: Shoreline Fitness!

This is an indoor “spinning” event where participants form teams to raise funds for the basic human needs of  Connecticut cancer patients. EVERYONE knows at least another who has been affected by cancer. Now you can form a team and recruit the support of your family, friends, co-workers, and local businesses to support cancer patients like Tess, a young girl from Clinton. Even if you cannot attend the event, you can support the cause with a direct donation.

Jaycees Brave Weather for Jog Supporting CSF

We want to happily thank the Windsor Jaycees for organizing a successful jog benefiting CSF on Sunday!

Though the weather wasn’t great, Jaycees and their sponsors were in good spirits and braved the elements. Our founder and executive director both attended the event. We’ll upload later more information from the jog along with pictures.

Below is a video from the Windsor Patch about the jog. Much gratitude to Stacy Brusa for her help promoting and running logistics. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the wonderful Windsor Jaycees in the future.

Patient Story: Monica

Logo background 3As you can tell from reading about CSF, we try our best to help cancer patients maintain access to basic necessities during their treatment. With jobs placed on hold and mounting medical bills, patients shouldn’t have to worry about if they’re going to be to provide food for their children or still have a home come next month.

The applications we receive for grants, which include letters from social workers, the patients, and doctors, really paint a dire picture of the challenging realities these patients face. Yet, we notice something else in all the letters: a relentless optimism and an inextinguishable dignity these patients have when facing such difficulties. It’s truly a testament to the human spirit.

We recently received a thank you note from a cancer patient named Monica. In her case, she needed temporary, financial assistance. If she hadn’t received our grant in time, Monica would not have had enough money for a deposit to pay for her electricity and her mortgage bill. These letters always put what we do in perspective for us and, at times, even bring us to tears: the “$1,000 to me is like a million”.
Thank You Note - Private

Our goal is simple: in spite of the great need, we try each week to provide for every applicant. We don’t want to have to turn anyone away. Your kind support will progress our vision to sooner becoming a reality.
